  Saskatoon Exhibition

Fonner ParkSaskatoon Ad

Racing started in 1925, coinciding with the Saskatoon Exhibition, a yearly fair in Saskatoon. Racing was conducted on a half mile track. in front of an open air grandstand that sat 7,000 fans. The nearby barns could stable 450 horses.

Fast forward 43 years, as Smokes of Spring crosses the finish line in front of the same grandstand, closing out the 1968 meet. As the fans filed out, there was concern that they had seen their last race at the Exhibition. Little did they realize, racing would return at the Exhibition, at a state of the art venue called Marquis Downs.
