On October 29, 1972 Barbara Smith, crossed the finish line first aboard Nobody Cares, but she never got her picture taken. In was was called a marginal foul, she was disqualified and placed second. A couple of weeks later she would score with the same horse at Lincoln Downs, November 18, 1972. Her first of over 200 victories.
In a career that spanned sixteen years, most of her riding was done in New England, mostly as Suffolk Downs She was a multiple placed stakes jockey, over a career that had over 2,000 starts. Her final ride, on June 11, 1988 came far from her home base of New England. She would ride a maiden, Tap a Magic at far away Wyoming Downs.
