Nancy Bielan, was from Barrington, Rhode Island, and after high school gravitated to the local horse racing tracks, Lincoln Downs and Narragansett Park. She started exercising horses and worked her way up to getting her jockey's license. In 1975 she started her riding career.
Riding at now defunct Lincoln Downs she scored on her third mount, Norse Plume on March 26, 1975 at 40-1. She continued to ride in Rhode Island, before moving north to Suffolk Downs and Rockingham Park. While riding at Rockingham, she was involved in an accident and ended up in the hospital. That event soured her on a career as a jockey and quit riding soon after.
