  Harney County Fair!

Harney FairHarney County Fair

Racing in Burns, is held at the Harney County Fairgrounds. The track features an open air grandstand with a half mile oval. Racing is held for three days and closes out the Oregon Fair schedule for the year.

The origins of the fair in Burns goes back to 1924, with pari-mutual racing being introduced in 1933, when wagering was legalized in Oregon. Surprisingly, most of the races at the Harney County Fair, are carded for thoroughbreds, with only a few quarter horse races.

I have never been to the races in Burns and find it hard to believe I would see a race their. I might someday make it to the site itself, but trying to hit those three days would be hard. I probably won't be the only person who has ever seen a race their.
