The Track That Went to School !

Oxford FairThe Big "O"

Harness racing in Oxford, is run as part of the Oxford Fair. Oxford is a small Maine town located about twenty five miles north of Portland. Oxford is better known for it's casino than racetrack. Racing is held on a half mile track which includes an open air grandstand. Oxford has the shortest meet on the fair circuit, with only four days of racing, it also does not host any Maine Sires Stakes races.

Oxford Maine, is probably better known for it's speedway than it's raceway. If you don't know much about the fair that originated in 1841 and started racing in 1857, your probably not alone.

After almost 100 years of racing the track was taken to make room for a local school. In 2003 the fair moved to another location with a new racing oval, and after a forty seven year hiatus, pari mutual racing returned to the Oxford Fair.

Oxford is another bucket list track. I did go to a race track in Oxford, back in the sixties, but that was Oxford Speedway.
